Before you move forward someone had better do a very detailed financial analysis of what the track will cost to operate. I know for sure that Dean
Johnson and Ian Micklethwaite spent lots of bucks advertsing their big events so they could reach enough people.
Problem with a four season climate is that there are only so many weekends to race ... and if it rains; and it WILL ... you're hurtin'.

Jon Lundberg, VODR (Ret.)

It is being hampered by the political climate, more than anything else.

Niagara
I'm sure we'd all like to see this happen, but i can see the political climate being against DRAG RACING. If it was NASCAR or CART, then i think
Niagra Falls or Buffalo would jump on the bandwagon, but the word drag strip seems put the hair up on the political necks in the area.

theres nothing more i'd like to see but isn't the drag strip actually a part of the airbase property ??? which would make it a mute point ... if the
air base closes there goes the strip with it...jim

Would a re-start of Niagara DragStrip pull racers and fans out of Lancaster?
I know from where we are here, some of the local citizens tried unsuccessfully to close this local track down as well. They tried everything, even
tried sueing the town council all the way to Albany to try to shut down this track.
And we are pretty much in the countryside, not very close to the populous at all.
If i can recall, Niagara now may be pretty close to the population.
I think not only a financial case, but a pretty strong business case using NHRA or IHRA to present to Niagara Falls as a tourist location that this
would be another venue to atttract tourism. Tourism seems to be the only way to get them to think in dollars and cents.

It doesn't look like it will ever happen. Lancaster and Niagara peacefully coexisted in the past, so I don't think that would be a problem and Cayuga
ran on Saturday evenings then and there was never a problem, Most business people that I spoke to were interested and in favor of Niagara reopening.
It sure would warm my heart.

Paul has a great point...i never looked at it from a "tourist" perspective...the current national "stars" could run the weekend show and conclude
their "vacation" in the falls...everybody's happy,,,Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...Jim

Does anyone have a contact with Niagara tourism board? Or raise the item at the next Niagara Falls city council meeting as another tourism attraction.
Like i said earlier, town councils ears seem to perk up when they hear the faint jingle of tourists pockets filled with money looking for attractions
to spend it on.

The track is not located within the city of Niagara Falls, It's in the Town of Niagara and although there is some interest in reopening the track, I
doubt that it will ever happen.

I guess there isn't the interest in someone with enough financial backing to go under the knife for a drag stip there. With Lancaster within driving
range, your right it will never happen.

Paul:
The political climate in the Town Of Niagara is the main reason the track won't reopen. The businesses are in favor of it and so is the town
supervisor, but I'm told he doesn't have the nerve to bring the subject up at town meetings.

Hello everyone... just found this site... for tha last few months i've been looking into alot of old Niagara Drag Strip history, and photos gathered
from some of my friends, and my family... i was wondering... is it even legal to go and see the old strip...? anyone know where it is anymore...?
i can't find aqn address, and sure-as-hell can't find directions... i've been racing for the last year - now that i'm legal on the strip - and have
been to Lancaster (sic), NYIRP (Leicster?), and Cayuga... it would be cool just to see the old track, so if anyone can, please let me know... - Ryan

Look in our photo gallery, to see what Niagara looks like. The shots were taken a couple of years ago.

Dont let the northern climate fool you.. Rock Falls raceway (formally Amber Green) draws a TON of cars each weekend... This is my home track and its
been around since 1969.. it gets stronger each year...

Reopening Niagara would be cool but, I saw NHRA mentioned. That would cost a fortune, uge paved pits, resurfaced track, and suites. I am living near
Houston, Tx now and we have three tracks in the area that run every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with test and tune and bracket racing. The big draw
is safety. Getting the kids of the streets on the the track. Of course IHRA, Fun Ford, Super Chevy, and NHRA at Houston Raceway Park occasionally.
It all depends on the Hot Rod climate in the area. The weekend stuff is what pays the rent.

The major requirement is the guardrails right alongside the racing surface. Why do you think NYIRP, (Empire) lost its National meet and it's IHRA
sanctioned?

dear readers my name is jason smith i work for Jay electric, for the last year i have been on a Smith & Son construction site.
I got talking to the guys there that are into cars and come to find out the owner of the construction company is the owner of the niagara drag strip
property from 1960 to the present all 220 acres of it!!! his name is DON SMITH!!! i had only got to talk to him for a short while, but will try to
talk to him more and will let everybody know as much as i can find out! http://www.sundayniagara.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif
as far as the airforce is concerned i don't believe they own any of it but
because of high alert the keep a close eye on it i aruge you not to talk on a cell phone back there , and be careful with a camera if you decide to
take pictures i was just there1/21/06 and had no problems!
